The Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) is a closed department that provides care to patients with severe illnesses, such as state of shock, organ failure, or any other critical medical pathology, which could require intubation and ventilation assistance. Patients admitted to the MICU will be handled by Pierre Eddé, M.D. and George Chebly, M.D., both certified and well-informed ICU specialists.
The medical staff is composed of specialized residents, residents, and interns, in addition to devoted, compassionate, knowledgeable and experienced nurses and orderlies who provide patients with excellent day and night care.
In addition to continuous monitoring of the main vital signs, hemodynamic monitoring is performed, if need be, using arterial lines, central venous catheters, and Swan-Ganz catheters. Additional body support through ventilators, hemodialysis, plasmapheresis, intra-aortic balloon pumps and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) are also permanently performed by well-trained teams.
Thanks to the various portable devices available in several divisions (such as radiology, cardiology, neurology and obstetrics), the MICU and other divisions within NDS offer a global multidisciplinary approach for the most delicate and complex medical cases, in addition to the tertiary care planned and provided by our teaching hospital.
Besides the high level of care provided to the patients, the time and support offered to patients’ families in order to make the appropriate decisions are considered an essential component of the hospital’s organization and daily routine rounds.
As such, the MICU at NDS is one of the most advanced ICUs in Lebanon, providing high-performance medical care with the highest level of quality and professionalism.
