The Infectious Diseases service provides care to patients with infectious diseases for preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. These pathologies may be viral, bacterial, fungal or parasitic.
The treated pathologies include:
- infections among immunocompetent patients, mainly fevers that may be linked to various systems, such as the respiratory, cardiac, digestive, urinary, gynecological, osteoarticular and neurological systems, and even cases of systemic fever.
- infections in immunosuppressed patients, including all cancer and HIV/AIDS patients.
- nosocomial infections, which are infections acquired in a hospital setting.
- infections acquired on trips to various endemic countries and the prevention of such diseases by means of a preventive treatment or even through vaccination.
The Infectious Diseases service operates in close collaboration with:
- the laboratory, especially the microbiology laboratory.
- the Hospital Hygiene Unit whose primary function is to control nosocomial infections and limit the emergence and transmission of multi-drug resistant germs, which would provide patients with a safe environment within the hospital.
- the Ministry of Public Health with regard to providing care in the event of epidemic risks (such as meningitis and seasonal or pandemic flu) and to the transmission of cases of mandatory reportable infections in order to provide patients, colleagues and the wider population with all the care or information they need.
